Why does opening a folder on my desktop bring up the search engine?

When I try to open any folder from my documents it automatically pulls up the search engine. I have to right-click the folder and choose open, which for some reason is second in line to search. How do I fix this?

   A registry entry has become corrupted; I’m assuming you are using Windows XP, in which case go here and download the file folder_open.vbs and follow the instructions

   (it’s safe to download from the above site)
