What are some good search engines to do scientific research?

I don’t mean like google, yahoo, or msn. Not the popular search engines but the ones that I can find lots of information on science. The topic that I might do for my research project is Genes and Intelligence: What’s more important, nature or nuture?

How do you get a website youve created to appear when searched on search engines such as Yahoo, Google?

I have just made a new website and no one is visiting it because no matter what you search on Yahoo or Google etc., its not coming up as a choice. Is there a way you know of to get a website to be listed on search engines? Thanks!
